Towards a Woman-Centred Approach: Guiding Principles for Intimate-Partner Violence Counselling

An analysis of Intimate-Partner Violence and a guideline for counsellors in Sinhala, Tamil and English.

These guidelines were developed by Chulani Kodikara and Harshini Ranasinghe of the International Centre for Ethnic Studies in consultation with Mr. Ananda Galappatti (Director Strategy, Good Practice Group), Dr. Aruni Hapangama (Senior Lecturer , Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya), Dr. Harini Amarasuriya (Senior Lecturer, Department of Social Studies, Open University of Sri Lanka), Dr. Mahesan Ganesan (Consultant Psychiatrist, National Institute of Mental Health), Dr. Ramani Jayasundera (Gender Consultant), Prof. Jeanne Marecek (Wm. Kenan Prof Emerita of Psychology, Swarthmore College), Ms. Shyamala Sivagurunathan (former Executive Director, Women Defining Peace) and representatives and counsellors from Affected Women’s Forum (Akkaraipattu), Centre for Human Rights and Documentation (Batticaloa), Community Development Foundation (Batticaloa), Eastern Self-Reliance Community Awakening Organisation (Batticaloa), Rajarata Kantha Padanama (Anuradhapura), Suriya Women’s Development Centre (Batticaloa) and Women in Need (Anuradhapura and Batticaloa).
