Ten Steps Forward to Deinstitutionalisation

De-institutionalisation is the process of transforming the institutional model of service within an organisation, to a model of family based care services that meets the best interests of the child. This model of service adopts
organisational standards and mechanisms that will safeguard the rights of the child, be inclusive of the child’s decision making capacity, seek family based care options as the first response if suitable for the child, promote relationships with family members, friends and other important take holders associated with the child and support staff through training and employment.
