Save the Children’s Emergency Response to Twin Earthquakes in Yunnan and Guizhou

This project was implemented as a response to the earthquake that struck Daguan County in Yunnan Province on 7th September 2012. The disaster killed 81 deaths reported, 821 injured and 740,000 affected. More than 200,000 people have been relocated from their damaged home. As soon as the Hong Kong SAR government approved the grant, Save the Children started the preparation of procurement process on 17th September 2012. The distribution of relief supplies was completed on 31st October on target. With the Hong Kong SAR government’s support, Save the Children was able to provide household hygiene and first aid kits to 2,130 households, and winter coats to 2000 children to ensure people’s basic living condition and protect them from illness, thereby directly benefit to 2,130 households (4,513 adults and 4,514 children) by kits and 2,000 children with warm clothes.
