Recommendation Paper on Training and Capacity Development in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) in Development Cooperation – As Exemplified in the Context of the Crises in Syria and Iraq

The paper’s main objective is to give those who design or implement MHPSS trainings well-founded guidance on what to consider in the given context in Syria & Iraq and its neighboring countries, to prepare trainees to meet the needs of future beneficiaries while taking the conditions at hand into account. The recommendations put forward thus strongly relate to the current circumstances in the region, which are marked by ongoing conflict in Syria, a volatile post-conflict situation with only some MHPSS services in Iraq and an unstable situation for refugees in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey with a strong need for MHPSS services that currently cannot sufficiently be met.
