Policy Brief: Guiding Principles of Memorialisation
In September 2012, Impunity Watch organized the Forum for International Exchange of Initiatives of Memory in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Over five memorialization in post- conflict countries were analyzed (Bosnia – Herzegovina, Burundi, Cambodia, Guatemala and South Africa). A number of guidelines have been distilled from The Research and Exchange Forum regarding memorialization in countries emerging from violent conflict . The eight principles are detailed in this report as tools that can help in making decisions processes. The research findings and some illustrative examples and background of the case accompany the explanation of each principle.
