Mental Health Delivery in Libya

The assessment was carried out in March 2015 and involved the evaluation of the current status, utility and integrity of mental health facilities and service provision and development, at primary and secondary level. The assessment also covered social and psychological resources, the availability of psychotropic drugs and strategic mental health planning and educational programmes. Several issues of concern were identified in particular the premises used for care and service provision, shortage of trained staff and psychotropic medication and lack of training and educational programmes. Proposals and recommendations were made accordingly to promote capacity building, and community based service delivery.
