Introduction to Mental Health for Social Work in Sri Lanka (Tamil Version)
During November 2009 and October 2010, the TGH program was partnered by the Barnet, Enfield and Haringey (BEH) Mental Health NHS Trust in UK promoting (with local participants) a series of workshops aimed at capacity building of mental health professionals in Sri Lanka, held at NIMH, Batticaloa and Kandy. This book draws on some of this work.
The book is intended to introduce readers to some basic concepts of mental health as they apply to Sri Lanka but informed by the general discourse on this topic around the world. But more than that, it is aimed to contribute towards the training of social workers in mental health, who may be attached to clinics, hospitals and non-governmental organizations. A similar book is being prepared aimed at mainly mental health nurses. Both manuals are based on some of the presentations made at workshops referred to above using handouts provided by presenters, reports on discussions during the sessions, and the observations of the resource persons from Canada and UK who have visited Sri Lanka under the aegis of the TGH Program.
The book is divided into six chapters. There are no named individual authors for any one chapter. This is because all the chapters include parts of presentations made by, and discussions with, several of the named contributors. In other words, this is a book representing all those named on the title page as having contributed.
