How Participation Changed Our Lives: Analytical Study on the Benefits of Children’s Participation for their Own Development

Comparative research in 7 Asian countries, 2013

Children’s participation is a basic human right as well as a general principle of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). If children’s informed and voluntary participation in all matters concerning them is to be realistic, beneficial and universal, evidence is required to support the translation of this right into action and make it a reality for all children. Thus the research on which this Report is based aims to strengthen the evidence base to support children’s participation by exploring its effects on children’s holistic development. A particular necessity is scientific data exploring children’s own perspectives on their experiences of participation.
