This book is meant primarily for community mental health workers. However, all those working at a grassroots community level in Cambodia will benefit from the knowledge and skills in basic mental health care given in the text. They can use this knowledge to help people while doing their usual work. Further, this can be used as a manual to train community workers. Thus the book is intended for the Village Health Volunteer (VHV), Representatives of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, social workers, members of the Village Rural Development Committee, teachers, Village Elders, monks, nuns, Achaars, NGO and ministerial staff working in the community. The average reader should be able to obtain an introduction to community mental health, and an awareness of the common psychosocial problems.
The book may also be used by health staff working in the community, health centers, and district hospital. Basic medical information, guidelines and treatment has been included. Thus the Khum nurses, primary and secondary nurses, medical assistants, doctors and those from the traditional health sector like the Kruu Khmer, Traditional Birth Attendants (TBA), mediums, monks and nuns involved in mental health care and those involved in primary health care from NGO’s or Ministries can use this book. Ideally, they should be trained in basic metal health care using this manual.
