About me | The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) helps people around the world affected by armed conflict and other violence, doing everything we can to protect their lives and dignity and to relieve their suffering, often working with our Red Cross and Red Crescent partners around the world. People know they can count on the ICRC to carry out a range of life-saving activities in conflict zones and to work closely with communities to understand and meet their needs. Our experience and expertise mean we can respond quickly and effectively, without taking sides. While our traditional health activities (first aid, war surgery, physical rehabilitation and health care in detention) have lost none of their relevance, other disciplines (primary health care, comprehensive hospital care, and mental health and psychosocial support) are increasingly our focus. The ICRC has made a clear commitment to providing high-quality and accountable health programmes, designed to meet professional standards. We often work in partnership with other organizations to bring together experts from different fields. The Health Care in Danger project is one such partnership, which aims to ensure that access to health care is not denied through attacks or obstruction. |
