About me

I have been working in the Civil Protection and Humanitarian Action fields for the past 15 years, as firefighter
and as part of NGOs teams. I became firefighter in 1998 at the Region of Madrid Fire Brigade, Spain, and had a first experience collaborating as volunteer with an NGO in Mozambique in 2000. Therefore, during the last years I have taken part in diverse activities related both to Civil Protection
mechanisms and Humanitarian Action response, either as professional expert or on volunteer basis, with national agencies and different international NGOs, in conflict areas or disaster contexts.

However, my academic background is a BSc in sociology, with a specialization in psychosocial, and gradually oriented towards disaster and conflict contexts. Starting from post-graduate courses on sustainable development, human rights and psychosocial support in contexts of political violence and disasters, to continue later on with more humanitarian assistance prone studies focusing on quality and evaluation topics, protection, peace and conflict, or civil-military relation among others, to end up with a Master in Humanitarian Action oriented to Conflict, Peace-building and Religion studies. After years of professional experience, those studies helped me to realize that the two different approaches on how I had been orienting my professional career and personal interests are quite interlinked, much more than I expected in the beginning.
