Online degree in psychology/counselling

      Hi! I already have a Masters in Social Sciences, but wish to finally listen to myself and go back to studying in a field related to mental health in order to focus my work on the topic (hopefully in the context of forced migration and the Middle East).

      I am looking at options to complete an online degree in psychology, while continuing gaining experience within the humanitarian/development sector, with the intention to gain the expertise necessary to manage MHPSS/protection projects.

      Any recommendations on best quality online degrees (cost/time efficient)?

      Also – I’ve seen a few options of a year or two programs (for example, degree in applied psychology or counselling). Since I’m not planning to do clinical psychology myself, but rather focus of project management, would that be a good option (i.e. considered valid in our field)?

      Very grateful for any suggestions!

      Hi Leane,
      You might be able to jump into the field without getting a whole new degree. I wonder if there is a certificate program or some sort of credentialing you could do to make yourself competitive from a project management perspective that wouldn’t put you in as much debt as a full degree would. Look into internship programs or volunteer opportunities to get your foot in the door before joining a new degree program. My two cents! 🙂

      Hey @jdartagnanlove! Thanks a lot for your suggestion. I should have said that I have 5+ years experience working with donors and 2+ years with INGOs in the Middle East (currently working with a public health organization). I’m more looking at ways to transition into a mental health or PSS project management role, considering that most job postings seem to require a degree in psychology (or to know if it’s even possible!).

      Oh, I see. That’s some fantastic experience! The Chicago School of Professional Psychology has an online program in international psychology you might look into. It combines both mental health and project management.
