Hi all – I’m new to a position here in Bangkok, Thailand working with Urban refugees and asylum seekers. We will be assessing our program shortly to better understand the needs of our population, however I’d love to hear what types of activities people recommend that work in their area and populations. Our main difficulty here in Bangkok is that refugees and asylum seekers are not recognized by the Thai government so many activities pose safety risks due to arrest and detention. I’d love to brainstorm with anyone and hear which programs you are implementing in your areas!
Dear Krista,
Thank you very much for your queries.
Please try to look multiple activities including support groups (theme centered) for 6-8 people inviting at one place. You can also see our project; which has been successfully implemented in large city like Kathmandu and Pokhara. The link is herewith: http://www.icrc.org/eng/assets/files/publications/nepal-hateymalo-program-2013.pdf Please contact me at yadhikari@gmail.com if you need further support.
With best,

Hi Krista,
I’ve come across a couple of things that might be helpful. The first is a website on urban refugees, providing information and a forum for sharing ideas and resources etc http://urban-refugees.org/#. The other is a brief report from the Feinstein International Centre giving recommendations on urban refugee livelihoods programming. This can be found here http://sites.tufts.edu/feinstein/2013/refugee-livelihoods-in-urban-areas-identifying-program-opportunities-4.
